Dear Students and Parents
This letter is to inform you that all senior students at Syracuse High School will be taking a district-supported ACT on Tuesday, October 22, 2024. The ACT test will be administered to senior students at no cost on this date only. Students taking this test have the opportunity to take it in the new online format. ALL students will need to come with a charged school-issued laptop. Studies show that students who take the ACT multiple times, improve their scores. All students who take this test will have their scores available before scholarship applications are due and hopefully give them greater scholarship opportunities.
Sophomores (10th) and Juniors (11th) will not take the test on October 22nd and will not be required to attend school on that date. The buses will run on their regular bus schedule. Senior students do not need to register for this ACT test. We have already registered all seniors as a school. We will post testing room assignments in the commons the week prior to the test.
On October 22nd, ACT test examinees (all seniors) should report to their assigned classroom by 7:30 AM and must bring:
Photo ID
School-issued laptop and charger
Calculator (an ACT-approved calculator – a list of prohibited calculators at actstudent.org)
at least 3 No. 2 pencils (no mechanical pencils)
Cell phones and other electronic devices (except school-issued laptops) will not be allowed during test time or during breaks. Please see that your student does not bring such devices with him/her into the testing room on test day. Tests will be voided if they are used at any time during the testing period on October 22nd (7:30 AM-Noon). Food or drinks may not be consumed in the testing classroom, but students are welcome to bring something to snack on during the test break time (approximately 10:00 AM).
Lunch will be served in the SHS Cafeteria for any students wishing to have lunch beginning at Noon. While sophomores and juniors are not required to attend school at all on October 22nd, all students (sophomores, juniors, and seniors) may come in to work with teachers in the building from 1:00 PM until 2:30 PM. The following day, Oct 23rd, will be an A/B day. A schedule for that day will be sent in a separate email
If you have further questions, please contact our Testing Coordinator Nichole Bair.
